The Eventia ITM Awards - celebrating excellence

Global corporate events agency WorldEvents has won the coveted Platinum Award at the 2007 Eventia ITM Awards in association with C&IT magazine, held on Friday 2 February at London’s Grosvenor House.

The Platinum Award, reserved for the project deemed to be the 'best of the best' from the Awards' 17 Gold winners, was presented to WorldEvents (formerly World Event Management) for creating a motivational conference and incentive travel programme held in South Africa to celebrate the centenary of pharmaceutical client, Norgine.

Honouring overseas events

This was the first Eventia ITM Awards presentation dinner, a new incarnation of the long-established ITMA Awards, now exclusively honouring events organised on behalf of corporate organisations, and held at overseas locations. The Awards dinner attracted over 800 guests, including leading live communications and motivation agencies, conference and incentive travel organisers, together with their corporate clients and leading industry suppliers.

Said Eventia Executive Director, Izania Downie: "UK event organisers lead the world in producing events that are spectacularly creative and logistically challenging. The Eventia ITM Awards throw the spotlight on the intelligent and sensitive use of overseas locations, together with application of best practice in disciplines such as corporate social responsibility and evaluation of outcomes. Year-on-year they raise the bar for the entire industry".

The winners

In addition to scooping the one and only Platinum Award, WorldEvents’ Norgine Centenary Conference collected three Gold statuettes – for Best Conference or Congress Long Haul; Best Celebratory Event and Best Event Demonstrating Corporate Social Responsibility.

Among the other star players at this year's Eventia ITM Awards were performance improvement specialist P&MM, who received a total of four Gold Awards for two separate projects – a five-day anniversary event for client Nikken, and the creation of two World Cup Tour buses on behalf of T-Mobile. Here is the final line-up of Gold winning agencies:

Archer Young (two Golds)
Banks Sadler
Corporate Innovations

The judges

A panel of 21 judges plus a non-voting Chairman met in November to evaluate over 80 submissions of international projects, on the basis of the programmes’ delivery of client objectives. The judging panel comprised agency, corporate and consultancy specialists, collectively bringing events expertise from a wide range of perspectives. Randle Stonier, one of the lead judges was the former Chairman of Euro RSCG Skybridge, founder of Adding Value and events examiner for Leeds Metropolitan University.

Stonier said: "Awards require a clear purpose, comprehensive entry and judging criteria and a system that is objective, transparent and avoids unscrupulous practice. I was delighted to have participated this year and found the ITM Awards to be all of these things."

Lifetime Achievement Award

In addition to the project categories, Eventia bestowed its second Lifetime Achievement Award - to one of the events industry’s most prominent, popular and respected figures, Tony Moy, co-founder of agency Page & Moy Motivation (forerunner to P&MM) and current Chairman of agency Oxford Motivation.

In saluting Tony Moy as a pioneer of group incentive travel, Eventia Chairman Nigel Cooper commented that at least sixty of the members of the Awards’ audience had been his early employees and would attest to his fair dealing and good humour.
