Eventia One Future

What is the aim of Eventia One Future?

The Eventia One Future initiative is designed to position carbon reduction and mitigation at the heart of event management.

It will enable Eventia members and their clients to establish a carbon responsible programme that recognises the relationship between events, carbon emissions and climate change and that will reduce the emissions impact of the events industry.

What will Eventia One Future do?

Eventia One Future gives a framework for emissions reduction and mitigation through the effective management and delivery of events

The programme has two key strands:

  1. For clients it will help deliver lower carbon event management and provide an emissions offset component.
  2. For members it will give support to drive emissions reduction in their own businesses.

Clients of Eventia members will receive lower carbon event management and have the ability to make a voluntary 1% contribution of their total spend on any event. The proceeds will be used to support UK woodland creation and energy education in primary schools. 1% has been selected as it most closely corresponds to the current market cost of carbon credits in relation to events activity. To effectively achieve this agency sales and operational people will be educated on how to present this programme to their clients and better understand how to plan lower carbon events.

Members will receive support to audit, reduce and manage their own carbon emissions.

How will Eventia One Future achieve this?

The Carbon Consultancy has been chosen by the Eventia Board as their carbon partner. They will provide specialist carbon management services to support emissions reduction and mitigation and deliver the offset products based upon forestry and school education. They will also work with members offering education and training support, free carbon audits and recommendations for carbon reduction initiatives in their own corporate and staff programmes.

The Eventia One Future initiative recognises the valuable contribution to emissions reduction and climate change mitigation that can be achieved by members, through best practice in carbon management and sustainability.

Why is Eventia creating this initiative?

Aside from the clear environmental imperatives, there is an increasingly strong business case for taking action to reduce emissions from events activity as part of a wider ranging carbon reduction programme.

  • The requirement for companies to deliver non-financial CSR information with their annual accounts and the consumer requirement for ethical and responsible products is driving marketing and product/service delivery.
  • 75% of UK employees would prefer to work for a company with an active carbon policy.
  • The consumer requires more carbon responsibility from product and service providers and has also demonstrated a propensity to transfer their personal concerns from domestic to corporate.
  • The Carbon Trust estimates potential power saving from UK hospitality sector at 20% of the total energy used. This translates into £800 million worth of savings annually.
  • The UK government is assessing how it may bring in sections of the commercial sector, including hotels, into emissions capping.

The business case is strong and Eventia’s intent is to lead the way by providing it’s members with a carbon responsible framework to reduce the emissions impact of events.
