Eventia's Autumn Workout

In association with

EVENTIA AUTUMN WORKOUT A STORMING SUCCESS

All play and no work was the order of the day on Friday 6 October when over 140 of the meetings industry’s fittest met for Eventia’s first Autumn Workout, organised in conjunction with Meetings & Incentive Travel for National Meetings Week.

The event took place at Horwood House near Milton Keynes. Following a motivational warm-up, participants embarked on a 4.7km run and walk in the grounds of the Victorian country house and conference centre. This was followed by an assault course using inflatables, including a space hopper slalom, foam body-boarding slide and target practice at human skittles.

After a sunny start, the thorough drenching from rain and foam at the close of the Workout was rewarded by a debrief session at the bar, before participants changed for dinner and partying in the evening.

We have received very positive feedback; a few of the comments are below:

"Eventia certainly knows how to host a great party, despite the weather we had a really fun day."

"What a good idea making us work out before partying into the night.  I can't believe my legs made it through."

"It was so refreshing to get outside and do something physical together as an industry."

"It was good team building for us and we met some great contacts in the industry."

Later, an informal awards ceremony paid tribute to the following champions of the day:

Fastest Male Runner: Patrick Fellow, Gallowglass
Fastest Female Runner: Jo Loft, Universal
Fastest Male Walker: James Smalley, Hilton
Fastest Female Walker: Guenaelle St Martin, Hilton
Fastest Running Team: Gallowglass
Fastest Walking Team: Hilton
Best Male Assault Course: John Walker, Oxford International
Best Female Assault Course: Jo Loft, Universal

Mandarin Oriental Hotels’ Patrizia di Patrizio presented vouchers for weekends at the group’s newly-opened property in Prague to the following contestants who showed the Best Efforts on the Assault Course: John Walker, Oxford International, Phil Morgan, Oxford International, Jo Loft, Universal, Ian Lapworth, Oxford International, Ali Wrighton, Universal, Ruth Harlow, Universal, Martina Smith, Universal, David Morgan, Universal and Andrew Winterburn, WEM.

Eventia Chairman Nigel Cooper thanked the Workout’s sponsors: M&IT, Accor, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, M&M and Company, Switzerland Convention & Incentive Bureau, Meeting Point Conferences, Crescendo, Universal, Hayley Conference Centres, One&Only Resorts, Destinations Unlimited, Event Assured, Mandarin Oriental Hotels Prague, Nestlé and the Cocktail Allstars.

Speaking after the awards ceremony, Eventia Executive Director, Izania Downie said: “This has been a fantastic event and a great collaborative effort on the part of the Eventia and M&IT teams - and especially MPC’s Rachel Ley  who managed the event for us. I’m particularly proud that the Workout has already raised for charity more than double that of the previous SummerRuns. Everyone has had a great afternoon and now we’re ready to party in to the night. However I am already thinking about a Spring sequel.”

Initial minimum sponsorship raised by the Workout’s participants towards the National Meetings Week Charity, Meetings Industry Meeting Needs, totalled £2,250, and further participant sponsorship is still expected.
