John Walker

Managing Director, Oxford International

John Walker's career started in hometown Toronto with Skyline Hotels before assignments with Skyline in Ottawa, Jamaica, London (UK) and Panama. Back in Toronto he spent three years in marketing with Wardair before moving to the UK in 1978. John first set up a business travel agency in Oxfordshire, then founded the meeting & incentive agency Oxford International in 1990. The agency’s key markets are pharmaceutical, healthcare and financial services.

John now has over 35 years of experience in the hotel, travel and event management industries. He regularly participates on industry advisory boards and spent five years as a board member of Eventia heading up the association’s education committee. While on the board, John instigated the first highly successful Summer Eventia in 2006, offering two days of plenary and workshop sessions which tackled some very topical and thorny issues. He participated on the focus group for the Chartered Institute for Purchasing & Supply (CIPS) which has developed an event management guide for procurement professionals in the UK.  He also opened the ongoing dialogue with Universities to further develop the link between industry professionals and educators.  John is also a member of MPI’s UK chapter.

Having a solid 'service industry' background running an international event management agency, John feels as an Eventia Ambassador he is uniquely placed to provide a rounded view of what we should be doing and where Eventia should be going as 'the voice of our industry'.
