Summer Eventia 2009

5-7th July 2009

2 days & nights of the best networking & education of the year

The Summer Eventia, one of the events industry’s foremost annual events, was held at the Holiday Inn on Brighton Seafront which is superbly and prominently located on the famous Brighton beachfront, opposite the Victorian West Pier.

An encouraging 220 delegates, speakers, media representatives and sponsors made up the conference community, which was a fantastic attendance considering the current climate and a great endorsement of the value placed by delegates on attending The Summer Eventia.  Feedback from participants has been universally positive, encapsulated in the comments of Tina Morris, AddingValue, ‘A big well done, Team Eventia! Great event - actually better and more focussed than last year, in my opinion. Informative, realistic and with excellent networking opportunities. We need to get even more delegates for Glasgow next year and spread the word!’

Conference highlights

Conference facilitator: Neil Jones

The conference topics covered a wide range of the key issues and trends facing the events sector.  They included an overview of the global economy and projections to 2012;  developing appropriate business strategies in these recessionary times;  optimising social media and opening up new ways of communicating with ever-changing audiences.

Parallel workshop subjects ranged from working with agencies, measuring results, destination innovation, CSR Best Practice and the Green Globe index and opportunities for 2012 and beyond.

This year the Monday evening programme incorporated a community-based challenge for all participants.  Working with Brighton’s Business Community Partnership, a local school, St Bartholomew’s, was identified and a painting project selected.  One of the playgrounds, essentially a mass of concrete, was made more attractive after The Summer Eventia delegates painted all the walls creating a fresh new environment for the children.

On a more light-hearted note the evening also gave delegates an opportunity to see a bit more of the city with a walking treasure hunt tour organized by Visit Brighton. The evening ended with a welcome drop of grog from DRP’s pirate ship-themed truck, followed by rides at the fun fair on the Pier and a hearty fish and chip supper.

And finally……
